New Year’s Resolution

As the older man stood in line at the grocery checkout, he overheard two women discussing their New Year’s resolutions. It was the usual weight loss for the woman in the red hat and the lady in the blue hat wanted to improve her job performance. Both had foolproof plans that could not possibly fail. Red hat had tried a multitude of diets over the years but this was THE 1. Blue hat had read a number of self-help books and had finally found a new five-step plan that was GUARANTEED.

As they gathered their purchases, the older man handed the roses to the cashier who admired his selection and asked, “Who is the lucky lady?”

The older man replied, “They are for my wife.”

The cashier then gave the man the look; you know the one that states, ‘What did you do wrong?’ Smiling, the older man replied, “I didn’t do anything wrong, I am just keeping my New Year’s resolution.”

“New Year’s resolution,” the cashier replied in amazement.

Continuing to smile, the older man stated, “Three years ago, I decided not to concentrate on my multiple failed resolutions, rather I wanted to make one that I would be successful at. So, I decide to give my wife roses, and when they died, replace them. I kept my resolution and my wife loves the beauty they now bring to both of us. This year will be the fourth. It seems to me that when you concentrate on what will make a loved one happy instead of what you want to do to improve yourself, both people win.”

Picking up the roses, the older man strolled out of the store thinking how lucky he was. Another New Year’s resolution accomplished.

This is the first post I published, which I think is still relevant. I have not changed it, as the first should always remain the same. May this year bring you good health, lots of happiness, tranquil music, and peace of mind.
